Domaine Fontclair

Cabernet Sauvignon on deep gravel, farmed by one family since 1978.

The gravel here is four metres deep in places, which is useless for anything except vines and drainage. That is the whole explanation for this estate.

What we grow

Cabernet Sauvignon leads, with Merlot and a little Petit Verdot. The gravel holds the day's heat and gives it back overnight, which is why Cabernet ripens here and does not fifty kilometres inland.

Visiting

We pour seated, six at a time, in the room where the fermentation vats used to be. English and French both spoken.
